1) Purva Karma (Preparatory Process)
2) Pradhanakarma
Pradhanakarma consists of five steps:
(a) Vamana (Emesis Therapy):
In this therapy artificial vomiting is induced through herbs. It is done to remove Kapha toxins collected in the body .It is the most effective treatment in Kapha Dosha.
People suffering from obesity, psychological disorders, bronchial asthma, psoriasis, hyperacidity, and skin disorders can opt for Vamana.
(b) VIRECHANA (Purgation):
This process is done on people with increased Pitta doshas. In this treatment Pitta Doshas collected in the liver and gallbladder are removed.
Diseases such as diabetes, asthma, skin disorders such as herpes, paraplegia, hemiplegic joint disorders, digestive disorders, constipation, and headaches can be cured through Virechana Therapy.
(c) NASYA (Nasal Administration):
Nasya eliminates the increased Kapha doshas situated in the head. In this process medication is given through the nose. In this therapy medicated oil is used through the nose to clean the Kapha toxins from the head and neck part.
It improves insomania, memory, eye sight, pre-mature greying of hair, relieves from headache, migrane etc.
(d) BASTI (Enema):
Most of the disease is caused by the imbalance in Vata Dosha. Basti treatment is mainly used in the rainy season as Vata dosha is high in this season.
Basti is considered as the best panchakarma treatment as all the three imbalanced doshas can be corrected. The accumulated toxins are removed from the body.
This therapy is beneficial for cervical spondylitis, digestive disorders, backache, infertility, obesity, piles etc. The therapy may be given for 8 to 30 days based on the requirement of patient.
(e) RAKTA MOKSHANA:
Raktadosha is caused due to impurities in blood. Any disturbance in blood circulation causes disease. This therapy is done to remove the impurities in blood.
3) Paschyat Karma (Post- Operative Process)
Paschyat karma is a special diet and instruction to be followed after panchakarma treatment. This diet helps the person to acquire sufficient calories along with maintaining doshas.by following these diets it increases strength and energy of the body, improves metabolism and activates the appetite.
